Message from SWFLL President
Dear Members:
As we are all aware, SWFLL has made significant improvements to our complex over the past two years, and as we head into the winter months, we remain committed to our vision of making our complex the best in the state for purposes of teaching young athletes softball and baseball. Our renovations during this off-season are as follows:
1. Field #2 – This field, which is used as the centerpiece of our softball program, will be upgraded by replacing the dirt infield with a field turf infield, identical to that used on fields 3 and 4. This new surface will allow our girls to play on a field that has state of the art drainage, which will ensure that our softballers have the same opportunity as the boys to play games on days that would otherwise be rained out. Our coaches will also benefit from this new surface, as the daily maintenance required for such a field is significantly less, which will allow the coaches even more time to work with the girls. Also, in response to requests from our softball parents, we are moving the score box to provide better “sight lines” for those viewing the games. We anticipate field 2 being filled with softball games every day of the week once the season begins.
2. Field #7 – This field is also used by our softball program, and to improve the playing conditions we are having it “laser leveled” and are moving brick dust onto the field. These renovations will allow the field to drain better and will reduce the number of rained out softball games that we have seen in past seasons.
3. Field #5 – Field turf is being installed on this field as well, which, again, will reduce the number of rainouts and will significantly reduce the field maintenance burden on our coaches.
4. Field #3 - We have removed all of the rocks that surrounded this field and replaced this area with concrete. This will allow our parents to have more seating area, and it will reduce the clean up burden on our volunteers.
SWFLL is committed to providing our players the best facility to grow and learn the games of softball and baseball. We have been the “backyard” for thousands of children for the past 50 years, and we have earned a reputation as one of the most desirable venues in the state for playing and coaching youth sports. Online registration is now open at www.swfll.org, and we look forward to seeing you this spring at the complex.
Barry Leonard - President
